36 transcendental etudes for two Trumpets

36 Transcendental Etudes for Two Trumpets is the combination of two books, Théo Charlier’s timeless trumpet etude book, Trente-six Etudes Transcendantes, first published by Alphonse Leduc in 1926, and the Charlier Companion, composed by James Olcott and published by Triplo Press in the year 2000.

The Charlier Companioncontains 36 etudes that are etudes in their own right, but when played with Mr. Charlier’s 36 etudes, create concert duets. This volume combines the two books under a single cover in duet format. In preparing for this publication, Mr. Olcott has updated the etudes published in the original Charlier Companion and has corrected mistakes that occurred in Mr. Charlier’s book as identified in the article Errata and Suggestions for 36 Transcendental Etudes by Thèo Charlier by Keith C. Clark, published in the ITG (International Trumpet Guild) Newsletter of October 1986.

From Mr. Olcott: “In composing the original set of etudes for the Charlier Companion and making revisions for this publication, a great effort has been made to maintain the thrust, style, concept, tonality, and harmonic structure of each Charlier etude while at the same time creating an interesting, challenging, innovative, and highly enjoyable musical interplay between the two parts.”
